Record drownings in southern Arizona prompted local TV station KVOA to start a campaign called “Kristi’s Kids” to promote drowning prevention awareness. VivoPools is proud to team up with them in their efforts for the 3rd year in a row. Hoping and praying for ZERO drownings this summer in the Tucson area!

Most pool companies have an annual Spring Conditioner charge. It’s not always clear what the charge is for, and we wanted to de-mystify it. We believe consumers should be educated on what they are paying for!

So, what is conditioner, and why does my pool need it?

Conditioner (AKA cyanuric acid) is required to stabilize the chlorine in your pool to protect it from evaporation by the sun. Without conditioner, your chlorine levels can degrade within a matter of hours, resulting in significant algae, and also possibly costly equipment failure. Customers pay extra for it because we do; we pass on that cost to you. Conditioner is applied when needed year-round, but we only charge a small fee for it in the spring.

And then we’ve heard customers say, “Oh I have a salt water pool, so it doesn’t use any chlorine, therefore I don’t need the conditioner.”  Au contraire!

Saline and salt systems include a salt generator that converts salt into chlorine gas. Your pool still has chlorine in it, and conditioner is still needed and added to ensure the water remains sanitized and the equipment protected.
